A huge thank you to Randy Simmons for inviting USF engineering students to the active construction site of a tilt-up building. The many details for this project were extremely interesting and the tilt-up construction process was jaw dropping, as over 100,000 pound concrete walls were set in place with a 300 ton crawler crane and expert crew. Other details of the construction site, such as the abnormal geotechnical properties of the site, drainage challenges, architectural touches, and foundation innovations to maximize uplift resistance and minimize construction cost, added to the experience, and we were all very thankful for the opportunity to learn from the R. R. Simmons group!
